Character Information
Character Name: Daisuke Jigen
Canon: Lupin the 3rd
Canon Point: After the TV special “Blood Seal – Eternal mermaid”. Which places him Post Green Jacket Series and Post Red Jacket Series. TV specials included areListed here. (easier to link then list 22 titles). Also including in his canon the Films: The Castle Cagliostro, Legend of the Gold Babylon, Farewell to Nostradams and Lupin the 3rd vs Detective Conan.
History: (Any headcanon will be in square brackets, as his canon history is scanty on certain details.)

Unlike Lupin, who is easily identifiable as at least part European (specifically, French it seems) and Goemon, who is just as easily identifiable as Japanese, Jigen seems almost mutt like in his country of origin and ethnic identity. As rough and tumble as any American, with a taste for that cultures food, drink and guns; yet uses a Japanese alias, and has Japanese features as well as an intimate understanding of both the European and American underworld... Daisuke Jigen's exact origins remain shrouded in mystery.

As with his origins, his early life and career are shrouded in mystery. Where exactly he picked up his gun slinging skills, and how long it took for him the expert marksman he is has never been explained in canon. What he did before he joined forces with Lupin is never explained, though hints of it are dropped all around with all the old acquaintances of his they run into. (A finer bunch of mercenary psychopaths you will never meet.) It appears Jigen was rather mercenary, working for anyone who paid well be they mobsters or rulers of small countries, having no set loyalty to any one person or job simply going where the money went.

Exactly how he (mostly) stopped this mercenary life and became friends and partners with Lupin is also never given a solid explanation. In the OVA special "First Contact" a Lupin-disguised-as-Jigen spins a story for a nosy writer. It is unclear how much of it is true, but certainly some of the details are true, as evidenced with the sword-slash container they are seen escaping with at the end of the OVA. However, just because the item in question was really an item they stole, doesn't mean the story told reflects the reality of the event. The best lies are based equally in fiction and fantasy.

But needless to say, he did indeed join forces with Lupin at some point in his career. [ It was some time into his career as the gunman to know and hire that a curious individual started to follow him around. At first, expecting a rival or perhaps an assassin, Jigen was wary of his tail; though he made no moves of violence against them. After a time of being routinely shadowed and a rather impressive incident involving a large sapphire, 60 gallons of non-toxic quick setting glue, feathers, three different mafia groups, a bakery, and more broken glass than window making factory after an earthquake he discovered the identity of the man following him. It was none other than Lupin the Third, the newly notorious 'Gentleman Thief' who had been making headlines and back alley whispers with his daring thefts around the world. His identity discovered, Lupin made the most astounding offer that Jigen had heard in a while; the offer of partnership.

Jigen immediately turned him down, knowing from hard experience that others were not to be easily trusted. He worked alone, and no charismatic thief was going to change this hard-earned habit.
Unfortunately Lupin the Third doesn't easily take no for an answer, especially if it's something he really wanted. Luckily he was more 'wear you down' type of person otherwise Jigen would have had to put an end to a rather interesting and inspiring career. A series of strange and moderately frequent run-ins while on jobs combined with mutual life-saving and back watching lead to friendship and, in the end, heterosexual life partnerbroship.]

The other two semi-regular members of the Lupin gang, Goemon and Fujiko he met while working with Lupin. Those stories are very interesting indeed, if a bit clouded in truth.

Personality: Where Lupin is much more of an international man of mystery, Daisuke Jigen is more like the old neighborhood tough. Gruff, pragmatic and cynical, Jigen has seen a lot of the world, and while not pulled down by the negative he still carries the weight of what he's seen both the good and the bad. Life is to be regarded with a certain sense of irony, but to be enjoyed to its fullest.

One of Jigen's defining traits is his loyalty to and trust in Lupin. Unlike Lupin however, it is a lot harder to get Jigen's trust and loyalty. Lupin gained it slowly, but this helped it become as strong as it is. Goemon also has Jigen's trust and loyalty, though not to the extent that Lupin does. This is because Jigen recognizes the Goemon's loyalty to his honor and morals come before all else, and while he can respect that he also knows that it means Goemon could leave him in the lurch when the two loyalties clash. Strangely enough Fujiko has a tiny portion of his loyalty, if none of his trust, because she is important to Lupin. While disliking her greatly for the constant betrayals, if Lupin is not around to help her when she is genuinely in trouble, Jigen will help her.

Jigen acts as a balancing force to Lupins impulsiveness, making sure to provide a voice of reason or to even refusal when he feels Lupin is behaving too erratically, or for the wrong reasons. Most often he tends to object when Fujiko is involved, because of her long history of screwing them over. However that is not to say that Jigen doesn't sometime act impulsively, he is simply more cautious than Lupin is, though not by much at times. Lupin may have the monopoly on mad genius plans, but Jigen is very good at improvising in the middle of those plans. He takes it upon himself to look out for his and Lupin's interests when the latter might simply ignore them in favor of helping someone out. That's not to say Jigen is unsympathetic to other's plights, but his first concern is himself and Lupin.

This sometimes leads to him being reluctant to help Lupin if there is no tangible reward for all the hard work. Generally he still ends up helping, if a bit more irritable for it.

While not as sharp as Lupin, there is a good brain hiding underneath that hat. It's simply that Jigen is much more likely to keep his own council on things, unless not sharing that information would put the others at risk. Jigen can also follow some of Lupin more convoluted thinking on some things, able to finish the man's thoughts at times. Even when Lupin doesn't reveal the whole plan to Jigen, he is still generally able to get a feel for the whole thing and can usually tell when one caper is part of a larger scheme. This ability combined with his deep loyalty to Lupin is why he is normally in charge of more of the plan than Goemon or Fujiko. If Lupin isn't the one doing it, then generally it's Jigen. This is especially true concerning distractions and getaways, as seen in the special "Alcatraz Connections" where he is the one who releases the fake seamonster and flies the getaway helicopter. Jigen also takes most of the things that happen during their capers with a certain amount of calmness, though he does visible show surprise when things get really weird. Sometimes though, he's just seen enough and so barely reacts to the sheer insanity of what is going around, simply lighting another cigarette and watches event unfold while lounging.

For all his calm behavior though, Jigen actually has a rather rough temper and is not afraid to show irritation or anger through violence. In fact, that is generally how he makes his aggravations known. While Lupin and Goemon are his friends, he has no compunction in punching, wrestling and threatening them if they get on his nerves too much. He is less likely to display his aggravation in a physical way with women and children however, using a sharp tongue instead of fists to show his irritation. Doesn't mean if the situation calls for him to hit a woman he won't, just that they are generally safe from his overall physical displays of aggravation.

Of all the members of Lupin's gang, Jigen is probably the one who is least moral qualms about taking a human life. Before joining Lupin it was highly likely that he was an assassin or some other kind of hired gun, given his rather astounding gun skills. That is not to say he has no morals about killing, he is not the type to kill for fun or to kill women and children at all; but if his opponent is a viable threat to himself or his friends, or even innocent bystanders you can bet that Jigen will take them down.

Jigen has a few defining physical habits and traits which make him easily identifiable. First is that he is a heavy smoker. You rarely see him without a bent out of shape cigarette in his mouth, and he tends to light up when there is a break in the action or when preparing a sniper shot like in "Operation return the Treasure". Generally seen smoking Pall Mall Long's though will occasionally light up a Marlboro. Second is his Smith and Wesson 19 Model combat revolver, his weapon of choice in a fight. The S&W Model 19 is a double-action, 6-round cylinder revolver that uses .357 magnum ammunition. Using this gun Jigen has a 0.3 second quick-draw and nigh superhuman accuracy. He can skeet shoot with his handgun, hit the warhead of a missile in motion before it hits its target, can deflect a bullet by shooting it in mid-flight, and read his environment so well that with a few apparent misses jam an opponent's automatic weapon. Depending on the situation, Jigen will carry around special ammunition for his handgun to be used as the situation calls for. Third is his dark broad-brimmed, black-banded fedora. He is rarely seen without it, the broad-brim hiding his eyes from sight most of the time, making him appear enigmatic. Jigen also has a great fear of the dentist and as such tend to leave any tooth ailments alone until they can even affect his shooting abilities, albeit in a temporary manner. Without these things, Jigen doesn't seem like himself.

Unlike Lupin colorful suits and Goemon's traditional garb, Jigen clothes are rather simple. He dresses in dark colored suits, the jacket always open, light colored dress shirt, and a simple dark tie.

Like everyone in Lupin's gang, Jigen is also proficient in disguising himself as needed, along with being able to pilot a wide variety of vehicles, like planes, cars and tanks even. Not including his handgun, Jigen also has experience and proficiency with many types of firearms, such a machine guns, sniper rifles, and grenade launchers just to name a few. Even with a noted preference for mid-to-long range weapons, Jigen is no slouch in hand-to-hand fighting either, able to win a fight within a few blows.

When not working, Jigen has a few hobbies he indulges in like fishing, billiards, gambling, practice shooting, watching spaghetti westerns, boxing, and lounging around. Not one to overly socialize, he tends to stick close to home base, or places he is familiar with. Jigen is also not one to casually date, due to bad luck with women either betraying him or dying on him, but he will if there is strong mutual attraction. Even though his country of origin is shrouded in questions, Jigen is partial to American food, enjoying steak, potatoes, burgers and pizza. He also likes to drink, mainly choosing beer or hard liquor like whiskey (both as scotch and bourbon).

Items on your character at canon point:
A Smith and Wesson Model 19, loaded.
Custom Back Holster, fabric.
Loose .357 magnum ammo (about 60 bullets or ten reloads)
2 packs of Pall Mall Longs.
Battered silver Zippo Lighter.
His Hat. (It's very important okay)

Abilities, Strengths and Weaknesses:
Abilities
Near Actual superhuman marksman ship, without being a superhuman. Ability to drive pretty much anything, on the land, in the sky, and on/under the sea. Staying mostly calm in the face of weird bullshit. Excellent lounger. Sharp hearing. Trained in hand to hand combat. Ambidexterous! Master Thief. Master of disguise.

Strengths
Physical:
Physically, Jigen is in good shape. However where he really shines is with his gun handling skills. He has a quick-draw of 0.3 seconds and night superhuman accuracy with his S&W Model 19 handgun. He has demonstrated the ability to deflect bullets in mid-air by shooting them, able to make a missile explode in midair by hitting the warhead, and can skeet shoot with his handgun which is impressive since you normally use a shotgun.

Jigen is also adept behind the wheel of most vehicles, and is able to take control of a car while it is moving as Lupin attempts his crazy stunt of the car case, as in seen in "Castle of Cagliostro". He is also able to hold his own in hand-to-hand even if his main strengths lie in mid-to-long range combat. Like everyone in the Lupin gang, he is also a dab hand at disguises when he needs to be. His hearing is also quite sharp, as he can hear the sounds of an automatic gun being cocked through a wooden door in "Alcatraz Connections". Jigen also is able to pull off some basic thieving skills, like pick pocketing, though not a proficient as Lupin.

Mental:
Mentally Jigen is probably the best at concentrating. To be able to shoot as well as he can while factoring in all the excitement that normally surrounds him takes an insane amount of concentration. All the more when he does such things as deflecting bullets and shooting missiles in mid-air. He can take down multiple opponents with non-lethal accuracy if need, or can take them out completely as the situation calls for. Jigen can also shoot accurately while running and diving for cover as needed, or leaning out a moving car.

Quick thinking in his battle tactics, he can use the environment to his advantage like when in "Operation Return the Treasure" he uses 'missed' shots to damage stacks of wood, a piece of which jams his opponents gun.

He isn't short in smarts either, normally able to follow Lupin's ideas, if not all the way to the end, at least pretty close. Jigen is also able to retain information needed to maintain a disguise, like playing the part of an oil-company financial manager in "$1 Money Wars". He also has a large amount of knowledge about various criminal organizations, military groups, and basic geography as evidenced in "Alcatraz Connections", "Lupin III vs. Detective Conan", and "Greatest Capers".

Emotional:
As always, Emotional mixes quite a bit with Mental. Jigen can focus on the current job eaily, able to push back or change his emotional reactions to certain things. He is never completely closed off while on the job, but most emotions that would break his concentration are muted. He is also able to separate the past from the present and not let old grudges cloud his eyes.

Although slow to trust once he does, you are a good friend and he'll go to most lengths to help you. He doesn't let small arguments break his trust, though he may take some time to himself to cool off if things got too heated. Jigen keeps a level head during most situations and has no qualms about bowing out if he feels things are not worth the risk or aggravation. However if a friend comes under fire, he will help them out if he knows they really need him, no matter how much it is their fault. While he trusts his friends, he also trusts in their own abilities to get themselves out of some of the messes they get themselves into and does not always go out of his way to help if he knows they can handle it, trusting in them to handle it themselves.

Weaknesses
Physical:
First of all, Jigen is a simple squishy human. Sure, he has excellent gun skills, but he's still normal flesh and bone. If he gets shot, it hurts and could potentially cripple or kill him. There are no miraculous healing powers, and blood loss is a total bitch to deal with. There is also the fact that he cannot handle tootchaches, due to his fear of dentists. The simple physical pain of a toothache can make his aim falter, where not even getting shot can make that waver at times. Also, he is a heavy smoker. While there are no real consequences of it, as he is easily able to keep up with Lupin and the rest when they are running away, the fact is he's addicted to those little cancer sticks. As with most addictions, a long period of time without them would cause withdrawal symptoms, though he has not experienced any in canon.

Mental:
While concentration is his greatest strength, it also has it's weak points. For one, it is harder for him to enter a state of extreme concentration if in pain, especially if it is internal, like with his teeth. Being shot certainly does no wonders for his concentration, but then again that's the same with everyone.
Even though Jigen not exactly hot-tempered, he certainly has a temper and is likely to act on it in a relatively violent way, even when it's a bit inconvenient.
He also has a great fear of the dentist, which means that when a tooth is getting to the point that dental intervention is needed, he is most likely to leave it until it gets really bad, which then interferes with his jobs and life.

Emotional:
In weakness especially, mental and emotional are harder separate. Jigen is slow to trust, which while not a bad thing as a whole, also means he views temporary allies with an eye as to when they might turn on him. He is also slow to make friends, since trust and friendship are practically synonymous for him. If you are a women, it's even harder to gain his trust due to the wounds of too many betrayals at the hands of woman. This makes him a bit misogynic, though leaning more towards the distrust part than the hatred of woman part. Jigen respects woman, but he never lets his guard down around them anymore. Experience has told him that even the most innocent or interesting seeming woman may try to hurt him, even if he did help them out of a tough spot. This goes double for Fujiko, though he certainly respects her skills, he is even less likely to trust her at any point in time, unless it works to her advantage.
He is also rather emotionally invested in his gun, to the point jokes are made. However whenever he has lost it, always temporarily, his shooting skills do take a slight but noticeable dip. Since he has shown proficiency in other weapons, it is likely he also has experience with other handguns, however because of the attachment to his gun his skills take a blow.
Jigen is also cynical in nature, though it's balanced out by Lupin's bizarre optimism. He doesn't let it get him down, but he certainly always expects the worst, especially from people. Without Lupin it is entirely likely that Jigen would have gone through his life always keeping himself closed off from others, living by his gun and nothing else.

Network/Action Spam Sample:
[It had taken him a few days to scrounge up a computer that was mostly usable, after others had impressed upon him that he really, absolutely, needed to be on the network.

But one highly profitable scrounge, a few feet of duct tape and only mild curing he had gotten his new(ish) computer to work.

After fiddling with it some more and a few hands of computer solitaire, because why not, he finally decides he probably should get his presence out there. More than a bit backwards from how he usually operated. Let Lupin be the ‘out there’ one, he was quite content to be a background character.

But still, the whole reason he’d gotten the computer was to connect to the network, so might as well. He sighed and opened up the network, leaning forward and lighting a smoke as he starts the audio post.]

[There is a hiss of static as the recording starts that smooths out neatly into an exhale. The audio stays quiet a second or two longer before a gruff, whisky roughened voice speak up.]

I’m not really one for idle small talk, but circumstances call for some sort of introduction. Greetings fellow, Boxians. Daisuke Jigen is the name

[There is a long slow inhale. Anyone who smokes or knows smokers will easily recognize the sound.]

As I understand, supplies are rather limited and sporadic. So, to business. I’ll help anyone out for smokes or ammo. I am also up for trading supplies if I have something you want and you have smokes or ammo.

[A faint tapping sound echos out of the speakers.]

I’m looking for any kind of ammo, though I do prefer .357 magnum. As for the smokes, well I guess i can’t be too picky, but Pall Malls or Marlboro if you got them. No menthol.

So, if you have smokes or ammo, let me know, and we’ll work out something.

As to everyone else?

I’ll see you around.

[The recording ends.]

Prose Log Sample:
Jigen leaned against one of the abandoned buildings on the boardwalk, eyes idly tracing the ocean horizon. So, it looked like he was here to stay, at least, for a while…. His gaze wandered over to the flood damaged and uninhabitable real estate only a short distance away from where he was standing. The sight still filled him with uneasiness, a testament to the unnaturally violent nature of this new place.

Not that unnaturally violent was a new thing to him. Hell, even the change from hired gun to thief hadn't really cut down the amount of violence in his life. It just gave him longer breaks between bursts of violence and a bit less collateral damage. Though a hell of a lot more weird bullshit. Not that he minded weird bullshit, after all it did make life more interesting.

But still, there was an edge of unease that grated on well honed senses. Add to that Conan's behavior and warnings and his nerves were hypersensitive, even if he didn't show it. The kid might be young, even if he was back to his real age, but he was very intelligent. Probably could give Lupin a run for his money, if they clashed.

Searching his pockets for a scavenged cigarette and his lighter, he pulled one out and lit it gratefully.

The lack of easy access to smokes was going to be grating though. He’d have to spread them out more. Fingers twitched at the idea, even the phantom idea of nicotine withdrawal making him itchy with remembered sensations. It wasn’t often he had to go without cigarettes, but the withdrawal made each time an absolute trial. Add onto that the stress of not having his gun, and there was the perfect recipe for him desperately wanting to chain smoke.

Still, he was stuck here for now, might as well make the most of it. At least his skill set was actually pretty handy for the place, if what Conan had told him was true.

Flicking and carefully extinguishing the ember of his cigarette, he tucked the half smoked cig behind his ear, before turning and heading back into Southtown, the ocean crashing peacefully behind him, counter to the destruction and sense of waiting that pervaded the area..
